The Jones Beach tower, now a familiar Jones Beach State Park landmark, was modeled on the campanile of St. Mark's Cathedral in Venice. It is 200 feet high, made of brick and stone, and houses a 315,000 gallon water tank for storage of water from four deep wells, each over 1,000 feet deep.
Captree State Park features a boat basin with open and charter boats available for fishing, sightseeing and excursions as well as scuba diving. It is known for its excellent Flounder and Fluke fishing and during fall, Blackfish and Sea Bass are common.

The Robert Moses Causeway, which was known as the Captree State Parkway until 1963, forms part of the north-south parkway corridor from Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park to Robert Moses State Park at the western tip of Fire Island.
